THRIFTY NZ mobile site

The Challenge

As smartphone use overtook desktop Internet use for the first time last year, it was imperative that Thrifty NZ came into the mobile space as soon as possible. The objective of this project was to address this missing piece in the Thrifty ANZ puzzle.

The Solution

Mindful of Google’s (then) imminent introduction of mobile-friendly changes to their algorithm, we needed to establish a Thrifty NZ mobile presence in the quickest time frame possible. So it was decided that we should “repurpose” the current Thrifty AU mobile website, adapting it to the NZ business requirements.

We were also up against a particularly tight timeline. In addition to the challenges posed by the transfer of code and content between sites and the creation of additional functionality, we also needed to integrate Thrifty’s complex booking engine and associated web services.

Some additional items of functionality that broadened the value and relevance of the service included the ability to make corporate bookings and for customers to benefit from free relocations.

In spite of the potential complications of differing business rules and functionality, plus a bespoke CMS, this ambitious project was delivered on brief, on schedule and on budget!
